Our Uganda Kisinga Coffee: Supporting The Rwenzori Women for Health Charity
The Star Inn The City is proud to support a wide range of different charities and causes, with particular focus on those that champion the values we hold dear such as protecting the welfare of people and the environment.
Over the last decade we have developed a strong relationship with Rwenzori Women for Health charity (RWFH), a York-based project that aims to empower women and improve the lives of all people in the disadvantaged community of Rwenzori, Uganda.
RWFH was founded by Rita Miller. Wendy helps alongside husband Mike, spending many months in Uganda supporting the most vulnerable members of the community.
As part of our partnership with RWFH, all of the coffee we serve at our York restaurant is made with Uganda Kisinga coffee beans, and with every cup bought by you our lovely customers 10p is given back to the charity.
Your indirect donation makes a huge difference and the money we have raised so far for RWFH has enabled them to take on many transformative projects.
One of KWFH’s recent initiatives involved setting up a therapy space for children at Kagando Hospital in Southwest Ugandal. The ‘Rainbow Room’ aims to bring joy to children battling illness and serves as a safe space for them to play with toys and games. The Rainbow Room also acts as an area where families can come to support their children (previously parents had to camp out on the hospital grounds to be close to them).
Other initiatives organised by KWFH include handing out clothes and other supplies at the Kagando Hospital neonatal unit, providing health advice and first aid training to members of the community, and helping to supply fresh piped water to the hospital.
About Uganda Kisinga Coffee
Uganda is amongst the world’s finest coffee producing nations and beans sourced from this African region are renowned for their low acidity, rich flavour, and delightful aroma.
All of those characteristics and qualities extend to the Uganda Kisinga beans used at The Star Inn The City. Grown in the southern Rwenzori Mountains, these delectable beans benefit from high altitudes and plentiful rainfall. Hand-picked from surrounding farms, the beans are sun-dried on raised beds and this process allows them to mature and develop their full rich flavours.
Uganda Kisinga coffee beans are lightly roasted, and this method produces delicious cups of bright fruity acidity, with notes of strawberry, blueberry and white peach.
