Market Menu Returns- Join Us This January
Following the overwhelming success of our Autumn edition, The Star Inn The City is delighted to announce that the Market Menu is set to return this January, offering diners the chance to enjoy an exquisite range of winter-inspired dishes made from the finest seasonal ingredients.
Banish those January blues by joining us every Monday-Friday in January, between 12pm-3pm. Choose from two courses for £23 or three courses for £28 and let the good times roll!
January Market Menu- The Perfect Lunchtime Treat
Our January market menu once again brings together a mixture of exciting vibrant flavours and fresh ingredients influenced by the tastes of the local Yorkshire countryside.
Imaginatively designed by Michelin-starred Chef Patron Andrew Pern and the team, January Market Menu starters include irresistible Slow Cooked Yorkshire Reared Beef Bon Bons complimented by Pickled Red Cabbage and Saffron Aioli. Guaranteed to warm you up on a frosty York afternoon, Market Menu diners can also enjoy a delicious Sherried Parsnip Velouté served with Sweet ‘n’ Sour Raisins, Yorkshire Brack Croutons to start.
Moving on to the mouth-watering mains, choose from a flavour-packed Garden Sage & Onion Stuffed Confit Loose Birds of Harome Chicken Leg or how about a scrumptious ‘Fishmongers Pye’, a little taste of heaven for seafood lovers that features a scrumptious selection of North Sea Produce as well as Golden Mash.
Okay, okay we know you may have a New Year’s resolution to keep but why not make your visit a cheat day and tuck in to one of our decadent desserts? A Steamed Brew York Ale Cake with Black Treacle Ice Cream and Butterscotch Sauce awaits.
Finally, compliment your feast with an afternoon tipple from our extensive drinks’ menu. We proudly serve a range of excellent wines, speciality cocktails, as well as freshly brewed CLO coffee.
Unveiling Our Pre-Theatre Menu
New for January 2023, The Star Inn The City is also excited to unveil our Pre-Theatre Menu. Catching a show at York Theatre Royal? Be sure to drop by before the curtains go up and you can enjoy two courses for £26 and three courses for £31.
Our Pre-Theatre Menu is bursting full of fresh flavours and serves as the perfect compliment to your special evening out. For the first act enjoy a succulent Plate of Oak Smoked Organic Scottish Salmon served with Burford Brown Mayonnaise, Shoreline Vegetables and Crispy Capers (other starter options are available).
For the main act indulge in a tasty Yorkshire Moors Shot Pheasant ‘Kyiv’, accompanied by Garlic & Parsley Butter, Red Cabbage & Garden Sage Slaw, Confit Potatoes and BBQ Sauce (other mains are available).
Finally, and for the encore, enjoy a delicious Yorkshire Parkin with Blood Orange & Sorrel, a tempting Ampleforth Cider Brandy Rice Pudding or pay homage to fromage with a slice of Shepherds Purse Yorkshire blue.

Our January Market Menu serves as the perfect excuse for you to escape the office at lunch time so please pop by. If you’re in York combing through the January sales, then we also invite you to join us at our riverside restaurant on the edge of York Museum Gardens.
Please be aware that tables for both the January Market Menu and Pre Theatre Menu can be booked for a maximum of 9 people.
