As the curtain falls on yet another extraordinary Supper Club, we can confidently say that the Howard’s Folly Supper Club was, without a doubt, a night to remember, filled with exquisite wines, delicious seasonal cuisine, and the embrace of Yorkshire’s warmth and charm!
The heart and soul of the event lay in the partnership with Howard’s Folly, an esteemed boutique winery hailing from the picturesque Alentejo region of Portugal. The wines they provided were nothing short of exceptional, and they paired beautifully with the meticulously crafted Supper Club menu.
One of the evening’s highlights was undoubtedly the presence of Howard Bilton, one part of the Howard’s Folly dynamic duo. His warm reception and engaging wine presentation added a personal touch to the evening, inviting patrons into the world of winemaking in the Alentejo region. His insights and anecdotes enriched the experience, making it both educational and enjoyable for all diners.
The night unfolded seamlessly, with each course carefully designed to capture the essence of the season and the rich offerings of Yorkshire’s countryside. For patrons, the journey began with the Smoked Mackerel with ‘Vol-au-Vent,’ Beetroot & Horseradish Chutney, an exquisite prelude to the culinary adventure that lay ahead.
The Pressing of Yorkshire Ham Knuckle & Guinea Fowl followed, a delightful tribute to Yorkshire’s culinary heritage, combining the succulence of ham with the delicate flavours of Guinea Fowl.
With the Yorkshire Moors Shot Partridge Risotto, the evening embraced the wild beauty of the Yorkshire Moors, showcasing shot partridge, wild mushrooms, wilted garden kale, braised chestnuts, and aged Parmesan. It was a dish that celebrated the local landscape and the season’s abundance.
The Brown Butter Poached Halibut Loin with Foraged Girolles, Marsh Samphire, Melting Potted Shrimps, and English Sparkling Wine Velouté celebrated the ocean’s treasures. Poached to perfection, the halibut combined beautifully with the delicate tastes of foraged girolles, creating a harmonious blend of land and sea.
For those with heartier appetites, the 8hr Braised Ox Cheek with Autumn Truffle Creamed Potatoes, Beef Fat Carrot, and ‘Bourguignon’ Juices offered a sumptuous journey into the heart of autumn. The tender ox cheek, infused with truffle-infused potatoes, was a comforting and rich delight.
The evening concluded with the Marathon Chocolate Box, a dessert masterpiece that offered layers of rich Dark Chocolate Mousse, peanut chip ice cream, and the delightful surprise of miso caramel.
