A Taste Of Autumn: The Market Menu Is Back!
As we bid farewell to summer and embrace those chilly autumnal nights, The Star Inn The City is delighted to welcome back the much-anticipated Market Menu!
Celebrating the finest ingredients synonymous with this time of year, all sourced from Yorkshire’s natural larder, from October to November, patrons can enjoy a wallet-friendly two courses for £23 or three courses for £28, available Monday to Friday between 12pm-3 pm.
Introducing The Autumn Market Menu
Autumn in Yorkshire is a magical time when the countryside comes alive with rich, flavourful game meats as well as hearty root vegetables. Our Market Menu pays homage to these seasonal favourites and comprises a delicious variety of starters, mains, and desserts guaranteed to satisfy any palate.
Starters
From the very first bite, our starters evoke the essence of autumn. Picture a velvety Celeriac & Granny Smith Velouté, where the earthy celeriac dances harmoniously with the tartness of Granny Smith apples, crowned with a drizzle of Tarragon Cultured Cream and adorned with Salted Cracked Hazelnuts.
For seafood enthusiasts, the North Sea Fishcake beckons, its delicate flavours elevated by a Dill Hollandaise sauce that gently envelops the flaky fish. It’s served alongside a Fennel & Coastal Pickings “Salad,” offering a taste of the sea’s freshest offerings.
And for those with a penchant for something unique, indulge in our playful twist on KFC, where Buttermilk Fried Pheasant Breast takes centre stage. Accompanied by a Spiced Red Cabbage ‘Slaw and a tantalising Henderson’s Hot Sauce, it’s a dish that provides the perfect mid-week pick-me-up.
Mains
As you move on to the main course, the rich, earthy flavours of Yorkshire come to life. The Yorkshire Reared Beef Cottage Pie is a heartwarming classic, reimagined with tender beef and Smoked Mash. The dish reaches new heights of flavour with the inclusion of Beef Fat Carrot, creating a symphony of textures and tastes.
For lovers of seafood, the Smoked Haddock & Shetland Mussel “Kedgeree” Risotto presents a unique infusion of taste, where the smokiness of the haddock marries beautifully with the Indian Spices and Flake Almonds, atop a bed of creamy risotto.
Vegetarians aren’t overlooked either and can savour a tasty Brown Butter Cauliflower, where the nutty richness of brown butter complements the charred and crispy alliums. A velvety Fountains Gold Cheddar & Lovage Velouté ties all the ingredients together in this harmonious vegetarian creation.

The October Supper Club: A Night To Remember
This autumn, The Star Inn The City has an exciting treat in store for its patrons. In addition to the return of our much-loved Market Menu, on October 26th we are thrilled to host the Howard’s Folly Supper Club.
Howard’s Folly is a boutique wine producer from Alentejo, Portugal and the brainchild of Chief Winemaker David Baverstock and entrepreneur Howard Bilton. David Baverstock is the undoubted superstar of Portuguese wine having been awarded ‘Winemaker of the Year’ an unprecedented three times, and he is credited with revolutionising the Portuguese wine industry.
On the evening of 26th October Howard Bilton, one part of the dynamic duo, will personally be presenting and explaining their exquisite wines and patrons will get the chance to try a range of their finest vintages.
