Do you take a deposit upon booking?
No we do not take a deposit when booking, however all bookings require us to take card details in order to secure the booking. We cannot make provisional reservations and if for some reason you are unable to provide card details at the time of booking, we will be unable to make the reservation for you at that time.
No show policy will result in the card given to secure the booking being charged £25 per person.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require a 24h notice period for all cancellations. Failure to do so will result in a £25 per person charge to the card supplied at the time of booking.

Do you take walk-ins?
Yes, we do take walk-ins but we strongly advise that you book to avoid disappointment.
Can you book for drinks only?
We do not take any reservations for drinks only, we do take walk-ins for drinks on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
How do we change/amend a booking?
Amendments can be made via your OpenTable booking, via email info@starinnthecity.co.uk or by calling 01904 619208 between the hours of 11am-6pm.
What if I’m running late for my reservation?
Please contact The Star Inn The City on 01904 619208 as soon as you know you are going to be late for your booking, if there is no answer, please try again and email info@starinnthecity.co.uk.
The Star Inn The City (York) Ltd will hold a booking for 15 minutes past the original booking time to allow for unforeseen circumstances resulting in lateness. During this period, we may attempt to contact you on any given contact details to ascertain whether you still require the table and to ensure there has not been a mistake with the date or time of the booking. After the 15-minute time slot has elapsed we reserve the right to give the table away to another customer or cancel the reservation.
Do you cater for hen or stag parties?
In consideration of our other diners, we do not accept bookings for ‘Stag’ or ‘Hen’ parties.
What time is your lunch service?
Our lunch service runs from 12:00-15:00 Monday to Saturday. Sunday lunch runs 12:00-16:00.
What time is your dinner service?
Our dinner service runs from 17:00-21:00 Monday to Saturday. Sunday dinner service runs 17:00-20:00.
Do you serve breakfast?
Yes, we serve breakfast 09:30-11:00 Friday to Sunday.
Are you dog friendly?
We are dog friendly in our bar area, our River Room and our terrace. If you are making a reservation with us please call 01904 619208 or email info@starinnthecity.co.uk to inform us you are bringing a dog with you so we can allocate you in a table in one of our dog friendly areas.
Assistance Dogs are permitted in the carpeted area of the Garden Room and Private Dining Room.
Dog owners are asked to show respect for other diners’ sensitivities, in keeping their dogs quiet, on a lead and under control at all times.
Is the restaurant wheelchair friendly?
Yes, the restaurant has a ramp to access the property, as well as a downstairs disabled toilet.
Do you have a private dining area?
We have two private dining areas at Star Inn The City. These are located downstairs with a capacity of 14-26 and upstairs with a capacity of 36. Please email or call for more information.
Is there a service charge?
A discretionary service charge of 12.5% will be added to your bill, this is shared between all members of staff.
Is there a dress code?
We do not have a dress code however we have found most diners choose to dress ‘smart-casual’ when visiting. We operate a strict no fancy dress policy.
Do you allow table decorations?
We welcome some table decorations for reservations including place cards and balloons however we request that the person making the booking contacts us directly to check that we can cater for different requirements.
Please note that we do not allow table confetti of any kind.
How long do we have our table for?
Each party is allocated a specific time at their table which is as follows: Up to 2 guests: 1 hour 45 minutes, 3-4 guests: 2 hours, 5-6 guests: 2 hours 15 minutes, 7+ guests: 2 hours 30 minutes. 10+ guests: 3 hours.
Is the A La Carte Menu available at lunch time?
Our A La Carte Menu is available from 12pm.
Do you cater for dietary requirements?
Guests are encouraged to notify us of any food allergies, intolerances or any special dietary needs at the time of booking and, in any case, prior to ordering. Even though some allergen free items are marked on the menu, we cannot guarantee this allergen will not be present if the allergen has not been communicated to our restaurant staff at the time of the ordering. It is currently not possible for us to guarantee that any product is 100% free from any allergens, due to the chance of cross contamination within the supply chain. We apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment this may cause; the handling of allergens is of the utmost importance to us as is the safety of all of our guests.
Allergies
Whilst we follow best practice at all times all the dishes we serve are produced in an environment where allergens are also prepared and cooked and therefore we cannot guarantee that the environment will be completely allergen-free.
Can I bring my own cake?
Yes, you can bring your own cake. However, a £5 per person cakeage charge will be added to your bill for parties who bring cake instead of ordering a dessert.
Where do your ingredients come from?
We source all our ingredients from local and independent farmers and merchants in Yorkshire.
Do you offer a set menu?
We offer a group set menu which changes seasonally. This can be found here.

Yes our starlets’ menu is available every day of the week and can be found here.

Do you offer accommodation?
We do not offer any accommodation at the Star Inn the City York.
Do you have onsite parking?
There is no on-site parking at Star Inn The City. The closest car park is Marygate which is a 6-minute walk from Star Inn The City.

How long are your gift cards valid for?
1 year from the date of purchase.
Is there Wi-Fi available for customers?
Our wi-fi is free for all customers to use.
