This elegant space can accommodate up to 13 guests with non-exclusive use, perfect for smaller gatherings that still want to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of our restaurant. For those seeking a more private affair, the River Room can be exclusively hired for parties of 14 to 26 guests. We offer flexible seating arrangements, with the option of one round table for up to 14 guests or two tables for larger parties of up to 26. This versatile space is ideal for small wedding receptions, anniversary dinners, or intimate corporate events. Please note that access to the River Room requires guests to descend two steps, and a minimum spend of £1000 (£1500 in December) applies for private parties of less than 14 guests.
Mezzanine Dining Room: Versatile Elegance
Our Mezzanine Dining Room, located on the upstairs mezzanine level, is the crown jewel of our exclusive spaces. Available for hire Sunday evenings through Friday, this room can accommodate up to 34 guests seated comfortably. The space offers remarkable flexibility, with seating arrangements that can be tailored to your needs – whether you prefer two long tables, four smaller tables, or one large table for up to 20 people. This room is perfect for larger social gatherings, corporate events, or any occasion that calls for a truly private setting. A dedicated server will be on hand throughout your event, ensuring impeccable service and attention to every detail. Please be aware that the Private Dining Room has no disabled access, and a minimum spend of £1500 (£2000 in December) applies for exclusive use.
The Garden Room: Exclusive Table, Inclusive Atmosphere
For those seeking a semi-private dining option within our vibrant main restaurant, the Garden Room offers an excellent solution. This isn’t a separate room, but rather our largest table situated in a prime spot within our main dining area. Accommodating up to 9 people, this table provides a perfect balance between privacy and the lively atmosphere of our restaurant.
The Garden Room is ideal for smaller group events, including birthday celebrations, casual business meetings, or simply a get-together with friends and family. Our attentive staff will also ensure you receive excellent service throughout your meal, making your dining experience feel special and personalised despite being in the main restaurant area.

For parties of 6 or more, The Star Inn The City York offers an exceptional Group Dining Menu, providing a seamless alternative to ordering from our à la carte selection. Our Group Dining Menu features a thoughtfully curated selection of three courses, showcasing the best of our modern British cuisine. Each dish is crafted to highlight the finest seasonal ingredients, sourced from local Yorkshire producers whenever possible. This commitment to seasonality means our menu evolves throughout the year, ensuring a fresh and exciting dining experience with every visit.

- Time Slots: Please be advised that tables for 10+ people are reserved for a 3-hour time slot.
- Weekend Group Sizes: Please note that the maximum group size we can accommodate on Saturdays and Sunday lunch time is 14 guests
- Exclusions: We do not offer any private dining options all day on Saturdays and Sundays lunch time, as well as the York Race Days, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
