The dedicated team at Rate Good Roasts travels across the country each year to uncover the finest Sunday dinners, assessing them in ten distinct categories.

We are honoured to have secured 11th position overall in a list containing 200 entries, fighting off strong competition from other local eateries to be crowned as the restaurant with the best Sunday roast in all of York!

Each year, ‘Rate Good Roasts’ embarks on a quest for exceptional Sunday dinners, meticulously evaluating ten key categories that define a special Sunday lunch. From the quality of the meat, veggies, and sides to the ambiance of the venue, the drinks selection, the overall value, the perfection of potatoes, the richness of gravy, the quality of service, and the crucial assessment of Yorkshire puddings – these factors all contribute to a restaurant’s standing on their coveted list.

The Rate Good Roast taste testers visited our riverside brasserie anonymously at the backend of last year and we scored highly on all the categories mentioned above, underlining the passion and dedication of our team in delivering an exceptional dining experience. Our commitment to serving the highest quality seasonal ingredients sourced from the local Yorkshire region also stood out and satisfied the high standards set by the popular social media account.

This latest accolade caps a proud couple of months for our restaurant after we were also recently included in a list of the UK’s top 100 Romantic Restaurants, compiled by online restaurant reservations platform OpenTable!

Alternatively, warm your soul with a tasty Roast Celeriac & Apple Soup, accompanied by a Toasted Loaf and a heavenly Horseradish Crème Fraiche.

The highlight of our Sunday Lunch is, undoubtedly, our incredible Sunday Roast. Choose from one of three meat options such as Roast Loin of Escrick Reared Pork with Crackling, Roast Sirloin of Salt-Aged Beef, or Rosemary Roasted Breast of Yorkshire Wolds Chicken. All of these juicy meats are accompanied by an impressive selection of veggies including Duck Fat Roasties, Buttered Seasonal Greens, Carrot, Swede & Horseradish Stump and a generously-sized Yorkshire Pudding. Don’t worry we’ve not forgotten the gravy! Expect lashes of rich and tasty ‘proper’ gravy.

For those in the mood for seafood, our menu offers a fish option which could include dishes like a succulent Pan Roasted Loin of North Sea Stonebass served with Confit Morteau Sausage, Madeira Wild Mushrooms, Charred Hispi, and Truffle Dressing. Vegetarian patrons can also enjoy options which could include a Celeriac Potato ‘Rosti’ accompanied by Fried Duck Egg, Charred Alliums, and a refreshing Celeriac & Lovage Velouté.
