Here at the Star Inn The City we are committed to bringing a ‘little taste of the countryside to the city’ and we offer diners the chance to enjoy scrumptious seasonal food in an idyllic riverside setting all year round.
To commemorate the start of Autumn we are delighted to announce that our new Market Menu has just landed, and guest can now try a range of mouth-watering autumnal-inspired dishes that are guaranteed to help banish those summer blues.
Join us every weekday between 12-3pm from September-November and try our Market Menu that showcases the finest ingredients sourced from ‘God’s own country’!
Swap ‘Al-Desko’ For ‘Al-Fresco’
The Star Inn The City’s Market Menu is the perfect complement to a special occasion get-together, or a quick bite with friends before a York Theatre Royal Show.
Our Market Menu is also designed to be enjoyed as a working lunch so if you’re a local worker take a break from your screen and swap ‘Al-Desko’ for ‘Al-Fresco’ when you sit down in our charming outside dining area that overlooks the River Ouse.
Inspired by the culinary wisdom of Michelin-starred chef Andrew Pern, our Market Menu brings together a mixture of exciting vibrant flavours and fresh ingredients influenced by the tastes of the local countryside. Guests can indulge in a delicious Ham Knuckle & Flat Parsley Terrine to start or try out our delectable Oak Smoked Organic Scottish Salmon Paté.
Moving on to the mains, tuck into our own Yorkshire Moors Reared Beef….’Steak Fritts’ served with garlic butter, dressed garden salad, and green peppercorn sauce. Or, for the fish lovers amongst us, get ready to be transported to the seaside when you try our fishmongers’ selection of day boat North Sea Produce, served with a delightful English sparkling wine and dill cream.
Finally, treat yourself to a delicious pudding; we serve up a delectable range of traditional desserts from our Market Menu, enhanced by a modern twist. Choose from our hugely popular Steamed Sticky Brew York Ale Cake or taste our zesty Crepe Suzette, served with orange liquor, candied orange and fresh vanilla ice cream.
Luxe For Less At The Star Inn The City
Market Menu diners at The Star Inn The City can enjoy luxe for less; choose two courses for £20 or three courses for £30 from Monday-Friday, 12pm-3pm.
To accompany your meal, select a tipple from our extensive drinks menu. Guests can enjoy a ‘Proper Yorkshire Tea’, fresh coffee made from our Uganda Kisinga coffee blend or sip on one of our speciality cocktails.
For beer and ale lovers, you’ll be delighted to know that The Star Inn The City is one of the only Pilsner Urquell Tankovna tank beer sites in the North of England; order a tasty lunchtime pint and unwind as you gaze at the river and watch the boats breeze by.

You will find The Star Inn The City situated right on the riverbank, close to the historic Lendal Bridge and Tower. Our restaurant is within easy walking distance of York Station. If you’re driving, you will find us a short distance from Marygate Carpark, which can be accessed via Museum Gardens or the riverside path.
