Located in York’s historic Old Engine House and nestled right on the banks of the charming River Ouse, The Star Inn The City is the ultimate food-led celebration destination.
Throughout the year our talented chefs, inspired by the vision of Michelin-starred Andrew Pern, work meticulously to showcase top Yorkshire produce with local and seasonal influences leading the way.
Bringing a little bit of the country to the city is our beloved mantra, and our offering runs from breakfast until late with a menu of mouth-watering dishes that makes the best of God’s Own Country produce, from coast to field and the forest floor.

In line with our commitment to serving the freshest and finest seasonal cuisine, we have a number of specials available every day designed by our exceptional chefs.
Our daily specials, which complement our hugely popular All Day Menu, are decided each morning and consist of a mixture of vibrant and tasty ingredients; whether it be succulent North Sea cod, tasty game or delectable seasonal vegetables.
To give you a small flavour of what to expect, some recent daily specials include a sumptuous Venison Loin accompanied by Pearl Barley Risotto, Onions and Rainbow Kale.
Incorporating succulent seafood, other recent specials include a spectacular Pan Roasted Gigha Halibut served with a North Sea Fishcake, Foraged Sea Beets, French Style Peas and Pickled Girolles.
Our daily specials aren’t exclusively starters or mains either; recent dessert specials have included a luxurious Chocolate Delice finished with refreshing Passionfruit and Blood Orange.
Al Fresco Dining At The Star Inn The City
The arrival of spring/summer sees the much-anticipated re-opening of our stunning outdoor terrace; you can now enjoy our delicious seasonal menus, including our daily specials, outside whilst you soak up the sun and admire idyllic river views.
Our outdoor terrace is open from 11th April but please be advised that this is for food and drinks bookings only.

If you’re celebrating a special birthday, anniversary or are in need of a good old catch up with friends, join us at The Star Inn The City this spring.
Our opening hours are 11am-11pm Monday, Tuesday Wednesday & Thursday and from 9.30am to 12am on Friday & Saturday, 9.30am-10pm on Sunday.
If you’re driving into York, you will find our restaurant on the edge of the Museum Gardens with the closest car park Marygate, which is a 6-minute walk from The Star Inn The City. Parking is also available at Esplanade car park and Principal York close by.
If you’re getting the train, our riverside brasserie is a short walk from York Train Station, passing the Lendal Bridge on your way.
