All Thrills And Thankfully No Spills! A Look Back At Our Special January Tasting Evening
After weeks of eager anticipation, build up and excitement, our special January tasting event finally took place last Thursday (12th January) and we’re delighted to reveal that the evening was a huge success!
Hosted in the elegant and sophisticated surroundings of our award-winning riverside restaurant, dozens of diners descended on The Star Inn The City for a sumptuous 9-course tasting menu designed by Michelin-starred Chef Patron Andrew Pern and Joe Lees, distinguished former Head Chef at The Star Inn The Harbour Whitby.
Our special January tasting menu evening promised to be a fervent celebration of the very best Yorkshire produce, and diners were treated to an eclectic mix of mouth-watering plates inspired by God’s Own Country’s landscape, from coast to field and the forest floor.
‘Exceptional Cuisine, Marvellous Company’
On arrival our excited guests were greeted with a glass of Taittinger Brut Champagne, setting the tone for what was to be a first-class evening brimming with exceptional cuisine and marvellous company.
Kickstarting this unforgettable culinary experience, patrons were first served crunchy ‘Black Bomb’ Cheese ‘n’ Onion Crisps embellished with Oyster Champagne & Caviar. A huge hit with a large proportion of guests, many commended the ‘Black Bomb’ cheese for its immense depth of flavour.
Next, and what was a very welcome course on a chilly January evening, diners were served a soul-warming and expertly seasoned Celeriac Soup accompanied by Beer Bread & Dripping.
No special evening at The Star Inn The City would be complete without sampling some expertly prepared seafood; for the following course diners were invited to enjoy a delectable Halibut Tartare before gorging on Andrew Pern’s iconic Black Pudding & Foie Gras which pays homage to his debut cookbook.
Continuing with this grand celebration of Yorkshire’s freshest and finest seafood, diners were treated to a juicy BBQ Lobster with Mussels before being invited to savour mouthfuls of scrumptious Roe Deer Ravioli & Devil on Horseback.
Completing this magical 9-course festival of flavours, diners were served ‘Christmas leftovers’ that encapsulated our favourite festive ingredients, and then came some hotly anticipated decadent dessert surprises.
Our rich and velvety Chocolate in a “Temper” pudding proved to be a huge hit whilst diners also applauded the vibrant, citrusy notes of our imaginatively crafted ‘Passion in Alaska’.
Not to overlook our cheese fanciers, a selection of guests opted to elevate their unforgettable feast by adding a cheese course which comprised Honey Truffled Oxford Isis and a rind washed cheese bathed in honey mead. Both fromage’s garnered widespread praise on the night!
