Since first opening our doors to patrons back in 2013 The Star Inn The City has grown to become one of York’s preeminent dining spots. Inspired by the culinary vision of Michelin-stared chef Andrew Pern our chefs proudly serve an eclectic range of scrumptious seasonal dishes that showcase the finest ingredients Yorkshire has to offer.

Over the last decade The Star Inn The City has also earned a reputation for first-class hospitality and we strive to offer guests an unforgettable dining experience, whether they’re joining us to celebrate a special birthday or a quick lunch with friends.

In recognition of our outstanding food and first-class hospitality The Star Inn The City is proud to have won several awards and accolades.

OpenTable Diners’ Choice Award

In recognition of our outstanding food, and testament to the passion and tireless dedication of our team, earlier this year The Star Inn The City won the OpenTable Diners’ Choice Award after being voted one of the best restaurants in York.

The 2022 Diners’ choice award recognises outstanding restaurants based on feedback from thousands of local diners. The award is based on diners casting their vote for their complete dining experience – from drinks to food to the level of service they received.

All OpenTable reviews are 100% unique and can only be completed by diners who had a confirmed booking at The Star Inn The City. We are extremely honoured to have scooped this accolade given that we value customer feedback from the OpenTable community, and all diners, extremely highly.

AA Rosette For Culinary Excellence

Here at The Star Inn The City we pride ourselves on using only the finest local ingredients, with much of our produce sourced from God’s Own Country.

In a nod to the way we utilize these quality ingredients to create delicious dishes, in 2020 our restaurant scooped a prestigious AA Rosette For Culinary Excellence.

The AA Rosette award scheme was the first nationwide scheme for assessing the quality of food served in restaurants and hotels after being introduced in 1956.

Rosettes are a clear indicator of culinary excellence and reflect the experience diners can expect from the moment they enter a restaurant. Awards are granted solely on the basis of a visit or visits by one or more AA inspectors who have extensive experience in assessing quality.

Although inspectors note many aspects of the dining experience, including service, their primary focus it the quality of the food and whether it successfully delivers on the promise of the menu. Inspectors also assess how well a chef manages to apply advanced techniques while retaining maximum flavour, and assuming an appropriate quality of source ingredients.

The Star Inn The City managed to satisfy all of the AA judges criteria, culminating in the granting of an AA Rosette. We look forward to building on this success and claiming further Rosettes in the months and years to come.

TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award

The TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice award was established in 2002 and is the highest accolade TripAdvisor can bestow.

Based on millions of reviews and opinions from travellers from around the world, this annual award recognises the very best tourism, food and hospitality establishments in terms of service, quality, customer satisfaction and more.

In 2020 and owing to the dozens of positive reviews The Star Inn The City received, we won our first Travellers Choice award with the TripAdvisor community lauding the quality of our food, service and atmosphere.

After the award was granted The Star Inn The City ranked as one of the best restaurants in York and the accolade put us in the top 10% of businesses worldwide based on reviews. We continue to attract extremely positive feedback on TripAdvisor and retain our 4-star+ rating.

TripExpert Experts’ Choice Award

In further recognition of the hard work, passion and dedication of our team, The Star Inn The City is proud to have scooped the prestigious Experts’ Choice Award.

TripExpert’s Experts’ Choice Award is the only accolade based on professional reviews, drawn from 100+ reputable publications.

The review body’s pioneering rating approach considers expert reviews from travel guides, magazines, newspapers and other respected sources, and scores food and hospitality venues against others in the same region. This system allows travellers to be confident that each highly rated hotel or restaurant is an outstanding choice for lodging and dining.

The award recognizes The Star Inn The City as one of the very best attractions in York. Emphasising the exclusive nature of the accolade less than 2% of businesses receive an Experts’ Choice gong.

The Good Food Guide

In 2020 The Star Inn The City featured in one of the UK’s most reputable and trusted food review guides: The Good Food Guide.

Founded in the 1950s The Good Food Guide is the longest-standing publication of its type which each year aims to shine a light on the best eateries in the country.

The Good Food inspection team includes a mixture of ex-restaurateurs and chefs as well as experienced editors, food writers and critics. All inspections are conducted anonymously to ensure no preferential treatment is received. No establishment can pay for inclusion to the guide either and no free meals are accepted so readers can be confident that recommendations are completely impartial.

Central to our restaurant’s inclusion in the guide was our expertly crafted daily specials, warm hospitality and charming riverside location. Inspectors praised the fresh and vibrant taste of our dishes whilst we also scored highly for ambience and service.
