This upcoming January The Star Inn The City York is excited to welcome you to enjoy an incredible 9-course set tasting menu designed by Michelin-starred Chef Patron Andrew Pern and Joe Lees, celebrated former Head Chef at The Star Inn The Harbour Whitby.
An experience rather than a meal, this promises to be an evening to remember. On January 12th at 5.45pm, in the elegant surroundings of our riverside restaurant, the very best of Yorkshire produce will be brought to your table, course after course.
Let our team guide you through the flavours of the Yorkshire countryside as we serve delicious dishes inspired by God’s Own Country’s landscape from coast to field and the forest floor. Our passion for local and seasonal ingredients ensures that you’ll experience an unparalleled pallet of taste sensations and our restaurant’s warm, genial, and cosy ambience provides the perfect anecdote to those January blues!
The Tasting Menu
Upon arrival at our award-winning eatery, you’ll be greeted with a glass of Taittinger Brut Champagne to kickstart your first-class evening; then the journey of eating exquisite contemporary farm to fork dishes begins.
First up you’ll be served crunchy ‘Black Bomb’ Cheese ‘n’ Onion Crisps accompanied by Oyster Champagne & Caviar. The cheese used to craft these crisps is ‘Black Bomb’, a fromage famed for its immense depth of flavour.
Next, and to warm both your body and soul, sup on a divine Celeriac Soup accompanied by Beer Bread & Dripping.
For your first taste of the coast, indulge in a soft textured and sensationally flavoured Halibut Tartare before enjoying Andrew Pern’s famous Black Pudding & Foie Gras which pays homage to his debut cookbook.
Continuing your multi-course extravaganza, you’ll then be invited to taste a succulent BBQ Lobster with Mussels before savouring mouthfuls of stunning Roe Deer Ravioli & Devil on Horseback.
In a nod to our fabulous festive dishes, you’ll get to enjoy ‘Christmas leftovers’ and then it’s time for some indulgent dessert surprises. Our team will serve you a decadent Chocolate in a “Temper” and you’ll also be treated to a sapid ‘Passion in Alaska’.
For a small additional extra supplement, you can complete this incredible feast by adding an additional cheese course which comprises Honey Truffled Oxford Isis, a rind washed cheese bathed in honey mead.
Finally, optional drinks pairings are available to complement this tasting menu, or you can opt to select a beverage from our ever-evolving drinks list which features vintage wines, local ales and speciality cocktails.
Vegetarian Tasting Menu
At The Star Inn The City we cater to a wide range of a dietary requirements and we will also be serving an exceptional 9-course vegetarian tasting menu on the evening of 12th January.
Vegetarian options include a flavoursome Veggie Black Pudding & Foie Gras, a divine BBQ Salsify with Mushrooms, and a tasty Crown Prince Pumpkin Ravioli, joined by the veggie-friendly dishes listed above.
