Supper Club Roundup: March ‘Taste Of The East’ Evening
Last Thursday (March 16th) The Star Inn The City played host to a special edition of The Supper Club and after an evening packed full of innovative food and exceptional company the event will be fondly remembered as a big success.
Inspired by our talented Chef Jason, and Michelin-starred Chef Patron Andrew Pern, The March ‘Taste Of The East’ Supper Club promised to take diners on an whirlwind culinary journey from the traditional East to the modern West. Arriving at our award-winning riverside restaurant for 7pm, Supper Club patrons were treated to five fabulous courses that captured the essence of Eastern cuisine, but with a Yorkshire twist.
A Look Back At A Special Evening
When devising the menu for our ‘Taste of the East’ Supper Club, Star Inn The City Chef Jason, working with Andrew Pern, strived to pay homage to his Eastern heritage whilst at the same time showcasing the best seasonal produce sourced from God’s Own Country.
With five-courses bursting with fresh local fish, succulent meat, delicate vegetables, and stunning flavour combinations, that goal was well and truly accomplished.
To kickstart this special evening, and once Supper Club diners were seated in the elegant surrounds of our dining room, they were treated to a delicious appetiser that comprised Pardon Peppers, crunchy Prawn Crackers, and a divine Pea ‘Guac’.
Next, our special Supper Club guests were invited to enjoy an innovative take on a Thai classic: Tom Yum Hot & Sour Soup with Escrick Pork & King Prawn Dumplings, Lemon Grass, Galangal and Kaffir Lime Leaves.
The Star Inn The City has a well-established reputation for serving incredible seafood. Honouring that tradition, but incorporating vibrant Eastern flavours, diners also got to enjoy sensational North Sea Cod Fishcakes served with Yorkshire Wolds Chicken Satay, Peanut Sauce, Coriander, and a scrumptious ‘Atchara’ Style Veg.
As the evening continued Supper Club patrons were also treated to a piece of succulent Wester Ross Sesame Salmon. Accompanied by Filipino BBQ Sauce, ‘Lumpia’ Spring Rolls, and a sweet, sour and salty ‘Ensalada Mangga’, for many this ranked as the highlight of the night.
Finally, before sampling a mouth-watering Coconut Rice Pudding and Tropical Sorbet for dessert, Supper Club diners lauded Jason and Andrew’s sensational spin on a Filipino favourite: Ox Cheek “Adobo” Yorkshire Pak Choi accompanied by Soy Sauce, Shitake Mushrooms and ‘Sinangag’ Philippines Special Fried Rice.
Complimenting this exciting menu, our in-house sommeliers devised a special matched drinks package which many Supper Club diners enjoyed.

Serving as a celebration of the freshest and finest ingredients synonymous with this time of year, tuck into starters such as fresh Pan Roast King Scallops and Slow Cooked Escrick Pork Collar, served with Henderson’s Relish Onions, Smoked Wensleydale Whip and Pork ‘Scratchings’.
Our sumptuous new mains provide the perfect balance of flavours and textures, choose from options including a Cheshire Saffron Risotto or Yorkshire Estate Shot Venison & Chestnut Mushroom ‘Ragout’, accompanied by Juniper Buttered Dumpling and Spiced Braised Red Cabbage.
Finally, and if you’re in the mood for a decadent dessert, All Day Menu diners can enjoy puddings such as Spiced Mascarpone Cheesecake, or our sensational ‘Rocky Road to the City’, served with Dark Chocolate Mousse, Torched Meringue and Salted Caramel.
